Editorial Policy
How GuideRanger guides are researched, written, reviewed and kept up to date.
Purpose and scope
Our guides help beginners and everyday users solve common laptop, computer, network and printer problems. We publish a smaller library of thorough guides rather than many thin pages: each one covers a whole problem, from the first quick check to the point where the manufacturer’s support is the right next step.
Who writes the guides
Guides are published under the byline “GuideRanger Editorial Team”. We don’t list individual author profiles or claim professional certifications, and we don’t publish ratings, reviews or testimonials.
Use of AI tools
We use AI writing tools to help outline and draft guides. AI output is never published unreviewed. Every guide is checked for technical accuracy, safety and clarity against official documentation, and anything that can’t be supported is removed or phrased generally with a pointer to the official source.
Accuracy and safety standards
- Official sources first: we verify steps against Microsoft, Apple and printer manufacturers’ own support pages and link to them at the end of each guide.
- No invented specifics: we don’t make up error-code meanings, exact menu labels that vary between versions, model-specific button sequences, compatibility claims, prices or statistics. Where details vary, we say so and explain the difference between Windows and Mac, or between manufacturers.
- Safe steps only: no opening device cases, no handling damaged batteries, no bypassing safety features, no registry editing, and no unofficial driver sites or “cleaner” and “driver updater” utilities.
- Data first: we recommend a backup before any step that could remove files or settings.
- Honest limits: no guaranteed fixes; every guide explains when to contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair service.
Dates
Each guide shows the date it was published and, if it has been changed since, the date it was last updated. We only show a date when it is accurate.
Independence
No company pays to appear in or shape our guides, and brands do not review them before publication. The site does not currently carry advertising or affiliate links. If that changes, commercial content will be clearly labeled and kept separate from editorial decisions.
Updates and corrections
Operating systems and apps change often. If something doesn’t match your device or looks wrong, email support@guideranger.com with the page address and your device or operating system, and we will check and correct it. Every guide has a correction note at the end for this purpose.
